Club History

Garstang Table Tennis Club started life as Winmarleigh Table Tennis Club and was formed in 2001. Susan Whiteside ran a youth club at Winmarleigh Village Hall and table tennis was one of the regular activities at the youth club, at this stage the club had no real tables just large tops balanced on trestle tables.

An “Awards For All” grant secured by the club in 2002 allowed the club to expand with the purchase of 4 brand new tables, a robot and various other equipment.

The club first entered a team in the Lancaster & Morecambe Table Tennis League (1st Division) in 2001, the team ending the season in 7th place. The following year saw the team win the 1st Division and secure promotion to the premier division. The following season the team consolidated their status in the premiership finishing with a respectable 5th place.

After a number of seasons the club have increased their teams in the Lancaster & Morecambe League to four, one team in the Premier Division and three teams in the 1st Division.

In 2006 the club entered teams in the Preston & District Table Tennis League for the first time. The club now also enter junior teams in the National Cadet League, National Junior League and other local junior competitions.
