December has been something a washout as far as outdoor sport goes with football matches cancelled and rugby matches called off. There is one sport however that is experiencing a boom partly as a result of our unpredictable weather. That sport is table tennis, the latest Sport England figures show 100,000 people playing table tennis on a regular basis, up 50% from 2009. read more...

Great day for Owen Pye

Saturday saw the second round of the Bay Schools League with no fewer than 13 Garstang players in action, in the secondary schools league all 4 Garstang teams finished mid-table, Jacob Bywater had a great day playing for Garstang A winning all 12 of his matches. In the Primary Schools league Garstang Community Primary B team finished the day in 2nd place, thanks to Owen Pye winning 8 out of 8 matches.

Sponsorship boost

Four Garstang players have been given a boost thanks to a sponsorship deal with Swedish table tennis company Stiga and their UK agent Thorntons Table Tennis. The girls Amy Wells, Kelly Southward, Megan Dillon and Alice Dillon will receive clothing and equipment in return for promoting the brand. This Sunday sees all four of the girls in action at the Blackpool 2 Star before training commences for the next big tournament the East Midlands 4 Star at Grantham in January.

Losing streak continues

In the Preston Premier Division Garstang A have carried on their losing streak falling to two more defeats, firstly losing out 6-4 to St Austinís, followed by a 10-0 defeat to league leaders Astra A. Meanwhile in the first division Garstang B have climbed to fourth place, firstly beating Astra D 6-4, then comfortably beating Croston B 8-2, both Mike Armishaw and Adam Soar claiming three wins each.
