National Junior League Preview

This Saturday, November 5th sees the first National Junior League to be held at the new Sports Hall at Garstang Community Academy, 15 teams from around the region will be present including Oldham, Blackpool, Preston, Barrow and of course Garstang. Taking part in the two Garstang teams will be Luke McGrath and sister Rebecca, Stuart Southward and sister Kelly, Ben Hynes, Ross Carter and Jessica Hay.

Great week in Lancaster & Morecambe league

In the Lancaster & Morecambe League Division 1 the Garstang C team got the week off to a great start with a 28-5 victory over University C, Kelly Southward and Andrew Williams both went undefeated, only Stuart Southward tasted defeat in a very one-sided contest.

Things got even better on Wednesday as Garstang B took on MHS Aces and emerged 30-2 victors, captain Jim Vasey, Mike Gregory and sub Stuart Southward were all unstoppable as they crushed the very weak Morecambe High School side.

Great start to National Cadet League 2011

The National Cadet League got underway at Garstang Community Academy Sports Hall on Sunday with 12 teams from the region taking part including two Garstang teams. Both the Garstang A and B teams claimed 3 victories and both teams suffered two losses both teams finishing the day mid-table, Joseph Peat was the star for the A team taking part in every match and winning 7 out of 10, whilst Garstang Community Primary School pupil Tommy Kennedy was the star for the B team, winning 5 of his 8 matches, all against older and more experienced opposition.

North Lancashire Training Day

The first ever North Lancashire Training Day took place at the Sports Hall of Garstang Community Academy on Sunday 9th October. 34 promising junior players from the North West took part, looked after by 7 of the regions top coaches. The players took part in physical training and drills, and also serve and receive exercises, after lunch the afternoon was devoted to match play. The squad will be back at the sports hall on 27th November for the next training day.

Great start for Martin Wyatt

In the Preston league Martin Wyatt, playing for Garstang for the first time this season, is looking like a fantastic signing after once-again remaining unbeaten in what on-paper looked like a very difficult match. Playing for Garstang A, who were taking on URCL, he dispatched Barry Mason with ease before then doing the same to Tony Boasman, he then sealed the evening with a fantastic victory over Bolton champion Ronnie Pennington. Team mate Graham Coupe did exactly the same to claim another 3 points for Garstang and the pair teamed up to claim a final point by winning the doubles and a superb 7-3 victory.
